Noddfa Chapel

Noddfa ICT suite is a facility for children and young people from the ages of 4 to school leavers, though the project has, and will continue to expand to include older teenagers.

It is managed by the BCBC library service and is part of Noddfa Chapel Community Project, Caerau, Maesteg, which has been financed by ‘Communities First’ since September 2002.

The ICT (Information and Communications Technology) suite, is situated in the former vestry of the chapel, and is open weekdays from 2.00 to 7.30p.m. Children and Young People are allowed to attend an hourly session each day. Young people that have left school can come to special sessions between 2.00 and 3.00pm eachday.

It is currently run by ICT officer Catherine Hughes, and Matthew Smith, her assistant. Both are experienced teachers who wished to move into community education believing that they could make a difference to the lives of young people outside of school and in a more informal setting.

We are also open in the school holidays, from 10.00 – 4pm.

The mission of this ICT project is to support young people in all of their life skills, by using ICT. We run basic skills and educational activities to develop the knowledge and self-esteem of the young people of Caerau and work in partnership with different agencies, such as Positive Futures, Youth Works, and The Youth Service. We are developing closer links with the local schools, Blaenllynfi infants, Blaencaerau junior school, and Maesteg Lower and Upper Comprehensive Schools.

The aim of this website is to:

Enable the children and young people to learn about web design and create their own site
Enable users to inform the wider community about news from and events at Noddfa.
Advertise the ICT suite to the local and wider community.
Link up with other websites on the WWW.
Display the activities done, and achievements made, by the children and young people who use the suite.
